Dr Feelgood + Eddie and the Hotrods + support from The Nics
Formed on Canvey Island in Essex in the early 1970s Dr. Feelgood remains one of the most popular and exciting live rhythm and blues acts in the world.
The raw and uncompromising style of their performance resulted in the album Stupidity that immediately went to the number one position in the U.K. charts. Dr. Feelgood have also enjoyed global success with a string of hit singles including Roxette, Back in the Night, Milk and Alcohol, Down at the Doctors, She Does it Right, Going Back Home and See You Later Alligator - which gave the group their first gold record.
The last album to feature Lee Brilleaux - Down at the Doctors, was recorded live at the Dr. Feelgood Music Bar on Canvey Island, (now the site of the Oysterfleet Hotel) just two months before he died. The current line up features the rhythm section Kevin Morris on drums and Phil Mitchell on bass, both 29 years in the band and Steve Walwyn on guitar who has been with the band for 23 years. Vocalist Robert Kane (formerly of the Animals) is the most recent addition – joining in 1999.
Recent releases include a DVD - Live in London and CD Repeat Prescription - a collection of some of the bands most enduring songs but with a fresh approach. Julien Temple’s film Oil City Confidential released on 2nd February 2010 tells the story of the bands formative years featuring the Wilko Johnson era. May 2011 saw the digitally re – mastered re release of Chessmasters originally released in 2000 on EMI Records … the band’s tribute to the Chess label, home to many of the finest blues artists of the 20th century and the first Dr Feelgood album to feature Robert on vocals.
The band continues to tour extensively throughout the World.
EDDIE AND THE HOTRODS began life in 1976, when four teenagers from Southend on Sea got together playing their own style of fast energetic rock and roll and R'n'B, they soon became a big hit on the London scene.
Catching the eyes and ears of the music press and the major record companies, they were soon signed up by the legendary Island Records and went on to have three hit albums and four top forty UK singles including the Top Ten hit 'Do Anything You Wanna Do'. There have been numerous TV appearances worldwide and they have filled almost every major venue in the UK. A success in the USA too, they have toured alongside The Ramones, Tom Petty, The Police, Squeeze and Talking Heads.
Still led by the 'very Rock n Roll' Barrie Masters, the band have been playing all over the world including France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Croatia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Poland, Japan and Russia, as well as four successful tours of the USA in 2006, 2008, 2009 & 2011. This year (2012) they will be back again for a swift run down the East Coast.
They have also found time to record two albums of brand new songs, "Better Late Than Never" in 2004 and the aptly titled, "Been There, Done That..." in 2006. On the video front, there is a full concert DVD, "Live in London - 2005", recorded at the late London Astoria and the soon to be released DVD of the legendary 1977 performance at The Rainbow.
The band are still writing and introducing new songs to the classic set, as can be heard on the recently released "New York: Live" - a recording of their show at Brooklyn's Southpaw venue, during their 2009 tour.
2012 saw the band on tour as special guest to global rockers STATUS QUO.
THE NICS In 2010 the tragic loss of Nicky Smith was the catalyst for his brother Mac Smith to form The Nics. With Mac on bass and vocals and Danny Stackhouse on lead/rhythm guitar the band spent 2 years with numerous line-up’s before finding drummer Rob Skitt in January 2012. Since then the Nics have been writing new songs in their hometown of Walsall. They are now ready to bring their Classic Rock mixed with Foo Fighters material to the masses and will be recording some of these in the studio in the coming weeks. The Nics are looking forward to playing to as many people in as many venues as possible in the near future.
First time Id seen Dr Feelgood in over 30 years - it took me back to my teens. Everyone may be older and grayer but the music remains as fantastic as ever. Just booked to see them again in a couple of weeks.
