Located in the centre of Newcastle the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre is easily accessible by the city's varied public transport systems. There is a choice of off-street parking nearby and a wealth of restaurants, shops, hotels and local amenities. It is a Grade I listed building.

It opened in 1867 as the Tyne Theatre and Opera House. In 1919 it became a cinema, the Stoll Picture House, the name which can still be seen on the building front and side. It was seriously damaged by fire in 1985, with subsequent rebuilding restoring the Victorian stage machinery.

The Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre is now operated by SMG, and is sponsored by Mill Volvo. SMG also operate and own the Metro Radio Arena and manage the Playhouse Whitley Bay. SMG prides itself on employing local staff within its venues who know the area and its people, and using local suppliers and services to help support the local economy.

SMG Europe have negotiated a 15 year lease agreement for the Grade 1 listed Tyne Theatre Auditorium and Bistro Bar. A new Naming Sponsor has also been secured for the theatre, which has been renamed the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre. This marks a new era for the region's best loved entertainment venue, and the oldest working Victorian Theatre in the World.

The venue is great but unfortunatley, the legroom is not good at all - quite cramped even in the front row of the Grand Circle. I could just about manage, but my poor hubby struggled (he is 6ft 4!).
The ELO Experience (14/07/14) - Absolutely fabulous!
I was really looking forward it and they did not disappoint. They are fabulous musicians and played all of my favourite tracks and more. I will definitely go to see them again. If you are an ELO fan, then go and see this Band. You will not regret it.

Buzz Theatre Arts (08/07/14) - Absolutely amazing!
The show although went on for a lot longer than we anticipated (not always a bad thing), was absolutely amazing. Kids of all shapes and sizes took turns to show us how great Buzz are at helping the kids see their own creative sides. The only issues we had, were not with the performance, but with the theatre it self. We booked front row tickets, not realising that its so close to the stage that you couldnt see anything without blocking others views behind us. In addition to not being able to see anything, the speakers and pyrotechnics were right at the front which was rather unsettling, especially for a 2 year old. Other than that, the Staff were amazing. Thumbs up all around :)

Old Theatre that could do with updating. Seats not tiered enough for children to see over adults and very low. It must of been very grand in its hay-day.
Scooby Doo (23/06/14) - Great show
Took my 7 year old grandson to see Scooby Doo at Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre in Newcastle - I wasnt really looking forward to it, but it was great - thoroughly enjoyed the show. The acting was great. The characters were just like the TV characters. There wss Scooby Doo toy for sale - this was my grandsons highlight - he loved it. Although the Theatre needs a bit updating, we enjoyed the experience.
