Venue information

O2 Academy Brixton has long been hailed London’s flagship venue, a must-play for artists and must-visit for music lovers. It has scooped the NME “Best Venue” award on an incredible twelve occasions between 1994 and 2007, proving its popularity with fans and the media alike and in 2009, received the Music Week ‘Venue Of The Year’ Award.

With a capacity of almost 5,000, it is truly one of a kind on the circuit and combines the feeling of an electrifying arena sized atmosphere, with great views because of its sloping floor and incredible capabilities for production.

Anyone who has waited for their favourite band to walk on stage at the South London venue will testify to its unbeatable atmosphere. Its magnificent art deco interior has been preserved and it houses Europe’s largest fixed stage, framed by an elaborate proscenium arch, based on the design of the Rialto Bridge.

We ask all customers attending the O2 Academy Brixton to respect our neighbours and act in a quiet and orderly manner in the surrounding area.

Test Artist Troxy (07/01/14) - Awesome!
First up their new single, Shuffle was the calm before a storm. Shaped around gentle crescendos, lead singer Jack Steadman’s childlike voice delicately chimed over the bouncing drums, proving that the band could pull off nuance in such a huge venue.

After the first few, newer songs, it was the hefty rock track Open House, from their first EP in 2007, which made clear the band’s chosen direction for the evening: rocking out.

The crowd immediately erupted as the first chords were struck. ‘I didn’t think they’d play this!’ squealed one girl next to me, who then pushed her way right to the front. Looking like they had just fallen out of bed, with scruffy T-shirts and tousled hair, the band were relaxed enough but the few attempts at banter betrayed their nerves.

Guest vocalist Lucy Rose was a distracting figure onstage as she awkwardly hung around, but her voice, when not being drowned out by the drums, gave a lighter quality to the band’s sound.

Very good venue, a bit of a rough area however that is obviously nothing to do with the venue itself. There is a separate line for O2 priority customers. Unfortunately I didnt have priority tickets and I feel it would have been better if they let in some priority customers, then some regular, then priority etc. rather than all the priority customers going in first as I felt this was unfair on the people with regular tickets that had been queuing for hours. Apart from that, great venue!
Bastille (21/10/13) - F**KING AMAZING
My mum bought these tickets for me as an early Christmas present and I was SO excited when I found out because I love Bastille so much! The concert was bloody amazing, we had standing tickets and were reasonable close to the front, it was fantastic! Bastille were absolutely amazing, which I knew they would be! It was such a great evening! They sang old, current and new songs of their own which Im excited to hear when they come out! If you like Bastille I would 100 guarantee you see them..or even if you dont

Vampire Weekend (09/07/13) - Superb!
Fantastic. The music was great but thats expected. Vampire Weekend interacted loads with the crowd which was brilliant and some of the party songs were brilliantly done. Go and see them live! They are one of those bands that are much better live!
