Rival Sons (22/04/13) - Southern Blues with a hint of the West Coast
First saw Rival Sons when they toured with Black Stone Cherry last year, and immediately loved their sound. But they needed a little more material to move on to the big time. Well here they are a year on and theyre ready to take on the world. Really nice to catch them at The Junction as its easy to get close up to the stage. The gig kicked off with Ulysses, from Bath. Never heard of them but they gave off a good vibe and had a lot of fun on stage. They were joined for their last number by some of the Rivals. So great warm up. Next on were The Temperance Movement, heard a track or 2 on Planet Rock, but not sure what to expect. They soon had my head rocking and my feet shuffling as they played a great set. Wow this was really becoming a memorable gig. Then the Rivals hit the stage and havent they matured in a year. Really great playing with a bit more depth to the playlist. So if you havent heard them check out their albums which play beautifully, but when the chance comes along see them live and youll be blown away. Amazing what a difference a year makes, some good writing and the confidence of experience can do to turn a good gig into a great gig.
