Al Lewis - He has the voice and he ... from Melisa Green, 08/04/11
A Welsh friend dragged me along into Caffe Nero in Trafalgar Square to see Al Lewis perform a live acoustic set. Apparently Al Lewis is a very well known artist in Wales and has played big festivals such as Wakestock. But as a Londoner, I had no clue who he was.
I was pleasantly surprised at the warmth, delicacy and emotion in his singing. The songs were so simple and beautiful. Caffe Nero is a buzzy loud place, yet everybody remained silent during the entire 40 minute set. His song One Way Love Affair especially touched me, so I bought his CD, In The Wake. It's worth mentioning he was joined by Sarah Howells on vocals, and she is a very talented singer too. I am specially in owe to Caffe Nero for organising these free concerts, and showcasing real talent thar normally escapes the radar of commercial radio stations.
