  • London - Hammersmith Apollo

    04/02/12

Thin Lizzy and Clutch at Hammersmit... from R Black, 07/02/12
Went for Clutch and stayed for Thin Lizzy. Clutch were as brilliant as they always are, effortless. Thin Lizzy were spectacular. Im 31 so I wasnt around for the first time round but these guys had a great presence, fine performance and strong setlist. They can rock and the Apollo was a great stage to see them.

    Brilliant. from Jan, 06/02/12
A fantastic night. Great to see Scott and Brian on stage again. Thought at the beginning it wasnt the same without Phil, but soon got into it and thoroughly enjoyed it all. My husband thought he would never see Brian Downeys drum solo on Shalala again and he blew him away!! Can't give it 5 stars as that could only be reserved for Phil and the boys but a well deserved 4 star!! Roll on the next time.

Awesome Lizzy from Dave Micklewright, 06/02/12
The Boys rocked Cardiff! Original members, Scott Gorham, Brian Downey were joined by Darren Wharton (keyboards), Damian Johnson (Lead Guitar), Marco Mendoza (Bass) and the impressive Ricky Warwick (lead singer). Tight and exciting! They rolled back the years and brought smiles to all with some of their classics, Boys are Back, Rosalie, Whiskey in the Jar etc etc. Two hours of great entertainment and fun!!

Hammersmith in the snow from Dr Feelgood, 06/02/12
Went to see Thin Lizzy on Saturday, had already seen the band at a small venue last year, this time it was bigger, better and the band were enjoying the performance.

Look forward to an album with the new lineup, it's looking promising. A mention for Ricky Warwick who seemed to be having fun in his role.

They just get better! from Bluetail, 06/02/12
I first saw Thin Lizzy in 1976 on the Jailbreak tour and saw them many times afterwards. Like many reviewers I was unsure what to expect but trusted messrs Gorham & Downey to be respectful of the mighty Phil and I'm pleased to say they have cracked it. This is the third time I've seen them in a year each time with a different 2nd guitarist, but I have to say Damon Johnson is the closest to Robbo yet - very impressed and he added his own style to his solos too..

You can tell this group are here to stay now - they are so tight and Ricky has improved hugely - he is not trying to be a Lynott clone and is very confident with the songs and I think once they start playing their own new stuff - which is in the pipeline - they will show how relevant they still are in 2012. The setlist now includes Suicide which went down a storm. Fantastic to have them back - Phil and Gary would be proud!
