Event Info

Jamaican vocalist, U-ROY, is one of the originators of the "Toasting" style.

Starting out with Sir Coxsone Dodd Sound System where he worked alongside King Stitt, U-ROY then moved over to King Tubby's Hometown Hi-Fi Sound System. His first single "Dynamics Fashion Way" was produced by Keith Hudson which was quickly followed by the Bunny Striker Lee produced "Earth's Rightful Ruler" with Peter Tosh. Duke Reid then signed U-ROY to his Treasure Isle label after a a recommendation from John Holt.

His two singles on the label in 1970 "Wake the Town" and "Wear you to the Ball" were massive hits and established his reputation as a formidable toaster. The following year the U-ROY version of "The Tide is High" originally by The Paragons cemented this position even further. The 1975 worldwide release on Virgin Records of the "Dread in a Babylon" album introduced Europe and the USA to U-ROY. Further albums "Natty Rebel", "Rasta Ambassador" and "Jah Son of Africa" were all produced by Tony Robinson.

By the Rivers are a 6 piece Reggae Band from Leicester who are tipped for big things in 2016.
