Diamonds a girls best friend! from Darryl Lane, 05/07/11
It is possible that most chaps will begrudgingly go along with their partners to a Neil Diamond concert expecting not to enjoy it that much. Well, they would be wrong. Mr Diamond has created many classics that have entered the great American song book, and unlike some artists he performs his songs with a lot of respect. You Dont Bring Me Flowers originally recorded with Barbara Streisand is performed on stage beautifully with Linda one of the backing singers. The band is excellent. Im proud to be their lead singer Neil said at one point. The core of the band have been with him for over 30 years, and it shows, musicians and singers unite perfectly. It is a very good show and even for a casual fan, youll know more songs than you think. Diamond has been on the radio for years, following our lives, remember Cracklin Rosie? Forty years old nearly! The magnificent America was belted out from the film The Jazz Singer. Neils own grandmother arrived in New York from Russia in the early 1900s to the sweet land of liberty. The Jazz Singer was Neils only movie appearance with Laurence Olivier no less. Beautiful Noise his love letter to the sounds of his home city New York was excellent too. He wrote for others. Im a Believer was originally for The Monkees, UB40 re-imagined Red Red Wine as a reggae tune, and that is how it was performed as a tribute to the band on the Thursday show. Even Quinten Tarantino used Girl Youll be a Woman Soon in Pulp Fiction! This later song was performed three times by Neil as first one, then three women clung to the stage while Neil serenaded them! The first lady got a mighty snog with the great man too ( see it on You Tube folks) If you can get tickets, do go. ( I got excellent tickets from Eventim considering I bought them three weeks before the show) So, go and see a legend while you still can. The old boy is 70 but does not look or act it!

    Neil Diamond from Margaret, 04/07/11
Saw Neil at LG Arena on Thursday - absolutely fab. He sang loads of oldies. He rocked the roof off the building. Wish I was visiting Glasgow, Manchester & London !!!!
