Event Info

The T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou hail from the West African nation of Benin. T.P. stands for the french "Tout-Puissant" which means "All Mighty".

The band formed in 1966 and have released around 50 albums and well over 100 singles. Though legendary back in the day and long sought after by crate diggers and vintage African pop fans the band had not played outside of African until 2009. In 2004 Soundway Records released the "Kings of Benin Urban Groove 1972-1980" compilation featuring the hottest afro-funk tunes from the band's extensive back catalogue. Shortly afterwards Germany's Analog Africa started releasing more essential music from this incredible band "The Vodoun Effect 1972-1975" in 2008 and "Echoes Hypnotiques" in 2009. Strut Records went one further and released an album of entirely new material in 2011 "Cotonou Club".

To celebrate this release AGMP brought the band to appear live in London to a packed out audience.

Now in 2016, the band who hung out with Fela Kuti, played with Miriam Makeba & Manu Dibango are back for a rare concert in the UK.
