Venue information

The Clapham Grand is more than a Victorian-era listed building in London: the Clapham Grand is an icon of the city’s cultural legacy. That legacy is now reclaimed and enriched with a comprehensive £500,000 restoration, refurbishment and return to form as a live music venue.

Originally opened as a music hall in 1900, the 1,250-person capacity Clapham Grand has previously served as a cinema, bingo hall and nightclub at stages of its history, but the greatest glories have arguably been through the artists and audiences it has hosted as a live music venue. Bands that have taken the stage at this celebrated theatre include such luminaries as The Kinks, Chuck Berry, The Temptations, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Echo and the Bunnymen, Madness, through to Public Enemy, Jamiroquai, Chipmunk, Paul Weller, Oasis, Muse, Hole, The Verve and Jamie Cullum.

Refurbishing the Clapham Grand has been a herculean undertaking, demanding of passion and vision. Revamping the sound system, lighting, staging and behind-the-scenes facilities was a labour of both preservation and reinvention. With work now completed, The Grand is again poised to retake its place as a jewel in the crown of music venues. With its three floors replete with cascading balconies, ornate plasterwork and royal boxes, the Clapham Grand echoes a bygone era while ushering in the next with it’s stunning high-tech refurb.

Big Country (01/12/14) - Great performance - Poor amplification of Guitars
A fantastic evening, a great performance to a great bunch of fans but it was spoiled by inadequate amplification of Jamie and Bruces guitars. Throughout the performance several members of the audience tried to point this out! Both guitars were going through what looked like two 50 watt amps and miked to another system that clearly was not working. I was front centre stage but should have heard something!
Nod From Accy, 17/11/14
The Wedding Present (17/11/14) - The Dogs
Great gig at a really good venue! Saw them last year at Shepherds Bush but this gig which much more intimate and the band more accessible. Kennedy was the highlight for me!
Tibbs, 10/11/14
Brilliant cosy and personal venue letting you up close. Excellent acoustics, rattles the whole place and leaves your ears ringing.
From The Jam (10/11/14) - Just like in the day!!!
Excellent rendition of the Setting Sons album from start to finish, no tweaking or messing around. Complimented with a multitude of hits and album tracks to get the crowd going in a superb venue. Looking forward to Sound Effects next year..............
