Located in the centre of Newcastle the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre is easily accessible by the city's varied public transport systems. There is a choice of off-street parking nearby and a wealth of restaurants, shops, hotels and local amenities. It is a Grade I listed building.

It opened in 1867 as the Tyne Theatre and Opera House. In 1919 it became a cinema, the Stoll Picture House, the name which can still be seen on the building front and side. It was seriously damaged by fire in 1985, with subsequent rebuilding restoring the Victorian stage machinery.

The Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre is now operated by SMG, and is sponsored by Mill Volvo. SMG also operate and own the Metro Radio Arena and manage the Playhouse Whitley Bay. SMG prides itself on employing local staff within its venues who know the area and its people, and using local suppliers and services to help support the local economy.

SMG Europe have negotiated a 15 year lease agreement for the Grade 1 listed Tyne Theatre Auditorium and Bistro Bar. A new Naming Sponsor has also been secured for the theatre, which has been renamed the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre. This marks a new era for the region's best loved entertainment venue, and the oldest working Victorian Theatre in the World.

Easy to get too. Real Old Theatre so atmosphere was perfect. Leg room for husband a bit of a problem but otherwise excellent.
Brendan Healy (15/10/14) - laugh a minute
Brendan Healy was hilarious, well worth going to see. He also had special guests on along with his own band.. Had a great night.

Simon and Garfunkel Story (13/10/14) - Top quality show
My partner and I took in this performance for our first visit to the Tyne Theatre in many a year. The show was a fantastic collaberation of their greatest hits, from early years to chart topping favourites. The narration was informative without becoming tedious, and the vocal and instrumental performance was as close to reality as could be expected. Some audience participation was required, which only helped add to the enjoyment. Great show!

Jimeoin (13/10/14) - Loved it!
A brilliant night in Newcastle. Very funny and had time for the fans after the gig. Made my girlfriend very happy with a signed dvd and photo at the end. Would recommend to anyone wanting to watch good comedy.
