Formed in 1994, Bowling for Soup didn't become famous until 2000 when their album Let’s Do It for Johnny! was released on Jive Records. At this point Bowling for Soup’s Let’s Do It for Johnny! tour tickets were a sell out. Up until that point the band had been toiling in anonymity, playing mostly local gigs in and around their base operations in Wichita Falls, Texas. Lucky for them, the first album sold well enough that they were able to record a professional album for their second try called Drunk Enough to Dance. The single Girl All the Bad Guys Want landed them a Grammy nomination in 2003 for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, which quickly bumped them up to one of the top pop/punk bands in the United States.

To date, the bands only Top 40 album has been A Hangover You Don't Deserve, which gained most of its popularity because of the single 1985, which was actually written by close friends of the group, the band SR-71. In addition, SR-71’s lead singer Mitch Allan contributed backing vocals as well as made an appearance in the music video, and the single went on to reach number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band also released an album titled Bowling for Soup Goes to the Movies in 2005, which was a compilation of cover songs based on movie soundtracks.

In 2005 they joined Simple Plan on the Star 102.1 StarJam tour, and performed as the opening act. Their cover version of the hit I Melt With You eventually went on to be used in the Disney movie Sky High, and most of 2006 was spent recording the seventh studio album, called The Great Burrito Extortion Case, which went on sale in September 2006. They then went on to produce an hour-long DirectTV concert series, as well as co-writing and singing the theme song for the hit Disney show Phineas and Ferb. Their first live DVD was released in October 2007, and in 2009 they released their Sorry for Partying studio album. Their eighth studio album will be supported by a Bowling for Soup tour.

A Bowling for Soup tour took place in 2009 called The Party in Your Pants Tour, which was supported by Zebrahead and The Leftovers. The next Bowling for Soup tour is in October 2010.
