Enjoyed it, but... from Lynn, 02/06/14
Aled Jones did a nice job and a very short intro which was sadly then followed by about 20 mins of video footage before Dame Julie took to the stage! Her talk was interesting and her warmth and energy is lovely.
You did feel like there was so much missed out however, she didnt speak about the Sound of Music at all, other than to say she still saw the children often.
I loved Julie Andrews when I was younger but know very little about her life so enjoyed hearing about her early life. After speaking at length about her her husband Tony however, she later talked about Blake Edwards being her main squeeze and made no mention of what happened to Tony. This was a tad confusing and did leave me wondering whether she had buried him under a patio somewhere!!
She only spoke for about 40 mins before the interval and afterwards Aled was on stage with her and it turned from a lecture with autocue into a chat show format. Some questions were put to her from the audience which had been registered before the show but a lot of it was Aleds own questions being posed.
Some questions she shied away from answering and, as you would expect from Julie Andrews, her answers were always sunny and she didnt give away any dirt or have anything negative to say about anyone shed ever worked with.
All in all I did enjoy the evening and it was wonderful to see her in the flesh, but for £88+ I feel that I didnt really learn anything that I couldnt have found out by an internet search.
