Parker's energetic performances - along with the wittily class-conscious spirit of his critically acclaimed debut album Howlin' Wind - preceded the arrival of punk rock and new wave music. His quirky-blue-collar image is often believed to be a major influence on the public persona of many British musicians, most notably Elvis Costello, Paul Weller and Joe Jackson.

Manchester - The Ritz
Top night out in Manchester from Nicklow, 11/06/14Its been more than 30 years since my previous Graham Parker gig, so there was a chance that the show might tarnish my memories of the tight and hard-driving performances I saw in the late 70s and early 80s. However, for a bunch of old rockers in their mid-sixties, they put on an excellent show that almost, but never quite, recalled those sweaty nights when they were in their pomp. This was probably a good thing, because my ageing limbs can no longer sustain 90 minutes of bopping. Time has mellowed the diminutive Parker, substituting his former edginess with cheek and wry humour. The devoted crowd were extremely vocal in their support, which clearly touched the band, wherein Parker congratulated us for “still being alive!”
Nottingham - Rock City
Wonderful, a step back in time from Anni [Stan], 04/06/14Parker and the Rumour have not lost their old magic, was so excited when they started up with Fools Gold and Hotel Chambermaid, was transported back to 1978, (couldnt stop my self dancing/pogo-ing) my only disappointment was that they didnt wind-up with Long Emotional Ride..... some of their new stuff is just as good as some of the old.... Fantastic Night (and it was great to be back at Rock City after many years). I had surgery the next day - if it had gone wrong I would have died happy!
Leeds - O2 Academy Leeds
Theyre back, and just as great! from Nytechy, 01/12/13It was just like Sheffield City Hall & Trent Poly in 1977, on the Heat Treatment tour; Ive still got the poster. Still buzzing!
About this Artist
In the spring of 1975, Graham Parker, a 24-year-old petrol pump attendant from Surrey, England, began to drive up to London to meet like-minded musicians and get a backing band behind his songs, which he now considered to be stronger and more interesting than anything he was hearing on the radio. By placing an advert in the Melody Maker he met Noel...
