Jermaine Cole was born in Frankfurt, Germany, and grew up in North Carolina. He started becoming interest in hiphop around the age of 12, and started writing his own lyrics and practising rapping, drawing inspiration from Canibus, Nas, Tupac and Eminem. His debut mixtape, The Come Up, was released in 2007 after he graduated from St. John’s University in New York.

His second mixtape, The Warm Up, came out in June 2009. Jay-Z discovered him through hearing a couple of his mixtapes, and arranged to meet the young rapper, much to Cole’s disbelief. He has described the meeting as one of the most nerve-wracking three hours of his life – he must have performed well, though, considering Jay signed him to his label, Roc Nation, afterwards! Interest in J Cole tickets started surging after people discovered he was the first signing to Jay-Z’s label.

J Cole appeared on Jay-Z’s album, The Blueprint 3, on the track A Star is Born, and also toured with the man himself on the Blueprint 3 tour. J Cole tickets for his university tour in March and April 2010 proved very popular after the Jay-Z seal of approval, and his debut album, Cole World, is due out in March 2011. It is said to include collaborations with Pharrell, Salaam, Remi, Danja, Jim Jonsin and No I.D. The first single was Who Dat: “it’s really about the beat and the raps and not much more. It’s an introduction to those that were unfamiliar [with me].”
