James was born in an army hospital in Wiltshire. He spent his early childhood living in England, Cyprus and Germany while his father was a Colonel in the British Army Air Corps, earning a pilot’s licence at 16. He was privately educated at the renowned Harrow School before going to the University of Bristol where he studied Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering and then Sociology. The army sponsored his university education, and so he was obliged to serve a minimum of four years in the armed forces. He eventually became a Captain and served in Kosovo, apparently writing the song No Bravery while he was out there. He left the army in October 2002 to pursue a music career.

His debut album, Back to Bedlam, was released in October 2004. The third single, You’re Beautiful, debuted at number 12 on the UK chart, then climbed to number one six weeks after that – he won an Ivor Novello Award for Most Performed Work for the song. His previous two singles, High and Wisemen, were subsequently rereleased after the unprecedented success of You’re Beautiful. The album went to number one and in 2005 the single and the album became the sound of the summer across the continent, with James Blunt tickets selling at record highs.

He achieved five Grammy nominations and embarked on a huge 11-month world tour, for which thousands of James Blunt tickets sold. He won Best British Male Solo Artist and Best Pop Act at the BRIT Awards, and then began a promo tour of the US with appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show and Saturday Night Live.

His highly anticipated second album, All The Lost Souls, was released in September 2007, and was certified gold in the UK after a mere four days. Throughout 2007 and 2008, James Blunt tickets sold steadily for his second world tour, which included a date at London’s O2 Arena.

In 2009 it was announced that his album Back to Bedlam was the best-selling album of the decade. In September 2010 James Blunt tickets went on sale for his latest tour in support of the new album, Some Kind of Trouble, which is fronted by the single Stay the Night.
