London - Hammersmith Eventim Apollo
Lyyki Li from Steve, 18/11/14Having bought the previous two Lykki Li albums Wounded Rhymes and I Never Learn earlier this year I was looking forward to the concert having not seen her perform live before. The lights dimmed and the band introd the guitar strum of I Never Learn before Lykki Li appeared through swirling dry ice billowing from the stage to deliver the song followed immediately by Sadness Is A Blessing with heart rending vocals which gave me goose bumps. The Apollo was the perfect place for the big echoing sound of her music as she went through No Rest For The Wicked,Gunshot and I Follow Rivers with that very rare thing among artists,to be able to mesmerize her audience with every move she made. This was no more so than when delivering Never Gonna Love Again as nearly every one in the audience, downstairs and upstairs with arms above heads holding lighters and mobiles aloft sang the anthemic chorus back to her. With the audience now in the palm of her hands,Rich Kids Blues and Get Some went by in a blur of fun and joy as a climax to the exhilerating set before coming back on for a two song encore culminating with Heart Of Steel. The time seemed to fly by as it often does with all good things. Lykki Li gave us an amazing evening and I came away having felt I had just seen something spectacular, spellbindingly special and unforgettable.
