Located in the centre of Newcastle the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre is easily accessible by the city's varied public transport systems. There is a choice of off-street parking nearby and a wealth of restaurants, shops, hotels and local amenities. It is a Grade I listed building.

It opened in 1867 as the Tyne Theatre and Opera House. In 1919 it became a cinema, the Stoll Picture House, the name which can still be seen on the building front and side. It was seriously damaged by fire in 1985, with subsequent rebuilding restoring the Victorian stage machinery.

The Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre is now operated by SMG, and is sponsored by Mill Volvo. SMG also operate and own the Metro Radio Arena and manage the Playhouse Whitley Bay. SMG prides itself on employing local staff within its venues who know the area and its people, and using local suppliers and services to help support the local economy.

SMG Europe have negotiated a 15 year lease agreement for the Grade 1 listed Tyne Theatre Auditorium and Bistro Bar. A new Naming Sponsor has also been secured for the theatre, which has been renamed the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre. This marks a new era for the region's best loved entertainment venue, and the oldest working Victorian Theatre in the World.

Absolutely beautiful theatre, staff were very friendly. The only negative was the seating was a tad uncomfortable. The cushioning on the seats were sparse so you were partly sitting on wood edging.
Tommy Tiernan (05/11/14) - Laughed my blooming socks off
Weve been wanting to see Tommy for quite a while. We were over the moon when we finally got tickets. He didnt disappoint, he was totally hilarious & exceeded all expectations. Would see him again in a heartbeat.

The Mill Volvo Theatre is one of the few original theatres with lots of old character! Love the way it is set out with the isle straight down the middle! The stage is at a great height for all to see and even if youre at the front you dont strain your neck!! Great old fashioned venue!
The Bobby Thompson Story (03/11/14) - The Little Waster
Peter Peverley was fantastic as the Little Waster! It wasnt just a stand up act, it was a story of Bobby Thompsons life. Peter had Bobby off to a Tee, dressing up in the Army clothes and the infamous jumper and cap! This is the second time I have seen The Bobby Thompson Story, and I will never get tired of the jokes!! Well done Peter! Amazing!!

The venue although very old it had charm and character and felt connected to performer as I wasnt too far from the stage. Seats are rather tired
Ruby Wax (03/11/14) - Great Night
The first half she talked about how she came about writing the book with funny stories which were true happenings in her life. Second half she asked the audience for questions which she answered with true feeling and empathy only disappointment was I would of loved to have asked a question with having depression for many years other than that a great night had by me and a friend.
