Located in the centre of Newcastle the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre is easily accessible by the city's varied public transport systems. There is a choice of off-street parking nearby and a wealth of restaurants, shops, hotels and local amenities. It is a Grade I listed building.

It opened in 1867 as the Tyne Theatre and Opera House. In 1919 it became a cinema, the Stoll Picture House, the name which can still be seen on the building front and side. It was seriously damaged by fire in 1985, with subsequent rebuilding restoring the Victorian stage machinery.

The Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre is now operated by SMG, and is sponsored by Mill Volvo. SMG also operate and own the Metro Radio Arena and manage the Playhouse Whitley Bay. SMG prides itself on employing local staff within its venues who know the area and its people, and using local suppliers and services to help support the local economy.

SMG Europe have negotiated a 15 year lease agreement for the Grade 1 listed Tyne Theatre Auditorium and Bistro Bar. A new Naming Sponsor has also been secured for the theatre, which has been renamed the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre. This marks a new era for the region's best loved entertainment venue, and the oldest working Victorian Theatre in the World.

Gabrielle (17/03/14) - As good as ever!
3rd time we have seen Gabrielle and shes as good as ever. Brilliant backing band and 2 quality backing vocalists who sang 1 song each, which were both excellent!
Buster, 03/03/14
Booked front row gallery seats and had a great view, however, there was limited leg room which made it difficult for getting up and down out of seats.
Sooty (03/03/14) - Excellent Show
Richard and Co. were really entertaining and great at getting everyone involved (even the parents). Our daughter who is 2½ even said that was great fun and asked if we could do it again. Looking forward to booking the for the next show.
kittens, 17/02/14
needs a good lick of paint - the toilets were not the best, needs an injection of money, such a shame as it has been a great venue for many years. but in defo need of some TLC
Circus of Horrors (17/02/14) - Go with an open mind
Not for the small minded, some acts were great, some were average, some were just plain weird! Quite surreal watching a dwarf swinging ball and chain off his donger. Music was great, theme was strange, only been once and wouldnt return but pleased we went
