The Metro Radio Arena Newcastle, officially ranked 7th as one of the world’s busiest venues by Pollstar magazine, is the largest concert and exhibition venue in the North East of England and is owned and operated by SMG, who prides itself on employing local staff within its venues who know the area and its people, and using local suppliers and services to help support the local economy. The Metro Radio Arena has a strong commitment to the North East as a region, and is more than capable of supporting the very best in entertainment in this superb 40,000sq metre site.
The 11,000+ seater purpose built Metro Radio Arena Newcastle was the brainchild of former Animals stars, the late Chas Chandler and his partner in Park Arena Nigel Stanger. It opened in November 1995 with basketball, and the first concert, David Bowie, was on Thursday 7th December.
Since its opening, the Metro Radio Arena quickly established itself as a superb venue and major North East landmark, alongside the Tyne Bridge, Angel of the North and Hadrian's Wall. It has already played host to millions of visitors to concerts, exhibitions, conferences and world class sporting events.
Some of the biggest names in the entertainment world have paraded their talents here featuring the likes of Oasis, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Rod Stewart, Kylie, Elton John, Coldplay, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Rihanna, Take That, Kings of Leon, Kasabian, Il Divo, Andre Rieu, Michael Buble, Peter Kay, Mamma Mia, Cirque Du Soleil and the internationally acclaimed Riverdance and Les Miserables to name just a few.
Thousands of children and adults alike have watched the sensational Disney on Ice performances, whilst sports enthusiasts have enjoyed World Championship boxing, WWE wrestling and Premier League Darts.
The 40,000 square feet of exhibition and conference space is the largest under one roof in the North East and has hosted many prestigious events, including the BT AGM and the Northern Rock Building Society's Special meeting proposing their change to a plc.

The Newcasle arena is a decent venue, with good transport links, parking, etc. Size is good to be able to cater for most shows, however as with most places like this the price of food and drink is something else. It was £4.40 for pint of lager and you only got 3 quarters full glass, need to work on this.
Walking With Dinosaurs (12/05/13) - Absolutely Brilliant
What can I say except this was a fantastic, well thought out, educated show. The dinosaurs were so lifelike you half expected them to turn and run after the audience. It was like being in a scene from Jurassic Park. The Paleontologist ( cant remember his name ) took you through the dinosaur era from the very earliest dinosaurs to the moment they were wiped out of existence, with a very informative and witty style which was appreciated by all ages. Can,t fault this at all, and can,t wait for the release of the DVD. If you are a dinosaur fan, then you should not have missed this, and if you did, WHERE WERE YOU!!!!!!!

The venue itself is pretty good, most bands and events are held there. we were sitting pretty close to the stage area. Ive seen Meatloaf 4 times there and have attended the venue for several other events from craft to ice skating events.
Meat Loaf (23/04/13) - Fantastic event!
I wish there were more stars as 5 isnt enough!
Im still on a high a couple of weeks later.
MeatLoaf did us so proud, his concert was amazing & the whole place erupted during the Bat of out Hell Sequence.
Everything was perfect and Id suggest you take plenty of tissues as its wasnt just Meatloaf that was crying!
I still cant believe its his last ever tour, but it was so worth it.
& I eventually managed to see the bat at last, would have prefered the motorbike but the bat was just as good.
Meatloaf as ever was fantastic.
