Edinburgh - HMV Edinburgh Picture House
Wonderful evening at the Picture House Edinburgh from Stevie-Jane Nicholson, 22/04/13Rival Sons did not disappoint their adoring fans in Edinburgh on 14 April 13. Their set was full of energy; Jays singing was phenomenal. Much audience participation - appreciated by the band. Scott was amazing on guitar; Robyn fantastic on bass; Michael brilliant on the drums. The numbers were from the first and second albums; Torture and Pressure and Time remain favourites of mine. An amazing evening and we look forward to the return of the band to Edinburgh.
Cambridge - The Junction
Southern Blues with a hint of the West Coast from X11, 22/04/13First saw Rival Sons when they toured with Black Stone Cherry last year, and immediately loved their sound. But they needed a little more material to move on to the big time. Well here they are a year on and theyre ready to take on the world. Really nice to catch them at The Junction as its easy to get close up to the stage. The gig kicked off with Ulysses, from Bath. Never heard of them but they gave off a good vibe and had a lot of fun on stage. They were joined for their last number by some of the Rivals. So great warm up. Next on were The Temperance Movement, heard a track or 2 on Planet Rock, but not sure what to expect. They soon had my head rocking and my feet shuffling as they played a great set. Wow this was really becoming a memorable gig. Then the Rivals hit the stage and havent they matured in a year. Really great playing with a bit more depth to the playlist. So if you havent heard them check out their albums which play beautifully, but when the chance comes along see them live and youll be blown away. Amazing what a difference a year makes, some good writing and the confidence of experience can do to turn a good gig into a great gig.
London - The Electric Ballroom, Camden
Wonderful, Great, Mindblowing from George Brion, 16/10/12To try and sum up the really great gig that Rival Sons put on is hard. Their rock n roll is played at a 1000 miles per hour and no prisoners are taken. If you are thinking about going to a show but you're not sure then just play one of their CDs and will make your mind up.
