Shark Reef Encounter - An Awe Inspiring new Experience - Coming February Half Term
New Shark Reef Encounter at SEA LIFE London Aquarium takes guests on an exciting journey through shark infested waters, where they will discover the truth about these awe inspiring but much maligned creatures.
Featuring a group of over 20 magnificent sharks - including two impressive 2.8m long brown sharks and a ten strong group of sleek black tip reef sharks – Shark Reef Encounter immerses guests in a positive celebration of sharks, challenges what people think they know about them and busts many common myths.
The first encounter is Shark Walk, a 5m long glass walkway that literally allows guests to walk above four species of sharks as they swim inches beneath their feet. They’ll be able to look down and see them at close quarters as they glide around in the waters below.
Moving deeper into the depths of the aquarium, guests will find themselves face to fin with the group. The giant 19.6m by 12m windows of the Pacific Reef Display give amazing up close access to these striking creatures as they circle a dramatic shipwreck scene dominated by huge floor to ceiling Easter Island heads. Guests will be able to learn more through interactive touch screens situated around the viewing windows.
Once back on the upper level, guests will see yet another perspective of the huge display as they enter the Shark Academy. The viewing windows in this area offer a 1.5m high vantage and the area is filled with plenty of touchy feely, fun interactives telling fascinating shark stories from their 450 million year evolution. And “Jaws myths” will be firmly challenged as guests find out the facts - from falling coconuts killing more people every year than sharks to how many sharks are killed for their fins (100 million annually) and the astronomical prices those fins are sold for ($300 per lb).
Regular talks and feeds will give guests a deeper insight into the world of sharks and the dangers the species faces today.
