Billy Connolly, also known as ‘The Big Yin’, is one of the world’s most famous and incomparable comedians.
Hailing from Glasgow, Connolly originally pursued a career as a folk singer in the 1960’s, performing as a member of The Humblebums, where he would also play the banjo and guitar while keeping the audience entertained between songs with his jokes and introductions.
Realising his ability to make people laugh, Connolly left the band in the early 1970’s to pursue a career in comedy and he soon became a household name, making his breakthrough on the chat show Parkinson. Connolly has since captivated audiences across the globe with his improvised and very natural humour, and even after 50 years is still one of the most sought-after and influential comics, with a legion of loyal fans both old and new.
He has been voted the best comedian of all time by Channel 4 and his stand-up tours are famed throughout the world and he has performed across the UK, in the United States, Australia and Canada.
Connolly is also a very accomplished actor, having starred in a number of Hollywood films including ‘Mrs Brown’, ‘The Last Samurai’, ‘Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events’ and Disney’s 2012 box office hit, ‘Brave’.
In 2015 Connolly announced that he would be touring Canada with the High Horse Tour.
