Deacon Blue is a Scottish pop rock band formed in Glasgow in 1985. The band consists of vocalists Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh, keyboard player James Prime, and drummer Dougie Vipond. Inspired by the Steely Dan song "Deacon Blues," the group quickly gained popularity with their debut album "Raintown" in 1987, which featured hits like "Dignity" and "Chocolate Girl."
Their second album, "When the World Knows Your Name" (1989), topped the UK Albums Chart and included the hit single "Real Gone Kid." Despite changes in musical direction and lineup shifts, including the departure of Vipond, Deacon Blue continued to produce successful albums throughout the 1990s.
After a brief split in 1994, the band reunited for a gig in 1999, leading to the release of the album "Walking Back Home." They continued to tour and release albums intermittently, including "The Hipsters" (2012) and "Believers" (2016).
In 2020, Deacon Blue released their ninth studio album, "City of Love," which received critical acclaim and commercial success. The following year, they released their tenth studio album, "Riding on the Tide of Love," amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
With a career spanning over three decades, Deacon Blue has achieved seven million album sales and twelve UK top 40 singles, solidifying their place as one of Scotland's most beloved musical acts.
