Francis Rossi CBE, was born on the May 29 1949. He is one of the founding members of the perennial British boogie-rock band Status Quo, commonly known as 'The Quo'. The band have been Rockin' All Over The World since the 60s with Rossi performing lead guitar and vocals. He was always recognisable by his ponytail hairstyle, however, he famously decided to chop it off in 2009 and the ponytail itself was won by a life-long Quo fan. A creature of habit, he regularly still plays the 1957 Fender Telecaster guitar that cost him a paltry (by today's standards) £70 back in 1968.
Francis Rossi has long been defined by his involvement with Status Quo and it has certainly been an illustrious career with over 60 UK chart hits, 22 of which have charted within the top 10. Fan favourites include Down Down, In The Army Now, Marguerita Time and the classic Quo track, Rockin' All Over The World, which interestingly enough did not actually make it to the top of the charts on its release in 1977.
Francis Rossi has a new album out entitled One Step at a Time. He has said that much of the material on this new album stems from a back catalogue of tracks he has written which he felt were not suitable for Status Quo and which he has now compiled into this solo release.
He has worked on solo projects before. He recorded two singles back in 1985 but despite recording an album at the time it was never released. The two singles, Modern Romance (I Want to Fall in Love Again) and Jealousy, didn't make the same impact on the charts as the preceding Status Quo releases. He did eventually release a solo album, King of the Doghouse in 1996. He also contributed to the soundtrack of the film, All This and World War II, for which he covered Beatles tracks.
