Leif Vollebekk is a Canadian indie folk singer-songwriter known for his soulful, introspective music. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, he is of mixed Norwegian and French descent. Vollebekk learned to play the violin, guitar, and piano during his childhood. He studied philosophy at the University of Ottawa and spent some time in Iceland on an educational exchange before moving to Montreal to pursue his musical career.
Vollebekk's debut album, Inland, was released in 2010 on Nevado Records and included songs inspired by his time in Iceland. He followed this with North Americana in 2013 on Outside Music. His third album, Twin Solitude, released in 2017 on Secret City Records, was a critical success and shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize and a Juno Award.
His fourth album, New Ways, was released on November 1, 2019, also on Secret City Records. Throughout his career, Vollebekk has extensively toured North America and Europe. In addition to his solo work, he contributed to Julien Sagot's debut album, Piano mal, in 2012.
