Black Marble is the electronic music project of American musician Chris Stewart, known for combining coldwave, synth pop and post punk influences into a sound that feels both nostalgic and distinctly contemporary. Originally formed in Brooklyn, Black Marble emerged during the early 2010s with atmospheric synthesizers, understated vocals and hypnotic rhythms. The project's carefully constructed music has attracted listeners drawn to the darker and more introspective side of independent electronic music.
Black Marble's catalogue includes albums such as A Different Arrangement, It's Immaterial, Bigger Than Life and Fast Idol. Across these releases, Stewart has refined a recognisable sound built around vintage inspired synthesizers, melodic bass lines, drum machines and vocals that often appear to drift through the surrounding instrumentation. Songs including "A Great Design" and "Iron Lung" highlight the project's ability to balance melancholy atmosphere with memorable melodies and understated rhythmic momentum.
Live, Black Marble translates this carefully layered electronic sound into an absorbing concert experience. Pulsing synthesizers and minimal rhythms create a dreamlike atmosphere, while the melodic character of the songs provides an emotional centre beneath the darker textures. The combination can make Black Marble concerts feel intimate and immersive even within larger venues. For fans of coldwave, post punk, synth pop and atmospheric electronic music, seeing Black Marble live offers a compelling journey into Chris Stewart's distinctive musical world.
