Burr Island are a British folk duo known for their beautifully crafted vocal harmonies, intimate songwriting and timeless acoustic sound. Formed by Tom England and Oskar Porter, the duo draw inspiration from the rich traditions of folk music and the melodic songwriting of the 1960s and 1970s. Their music combines warm acoustic instrumentation with reflective lyrics and carefully arranged harmonies, creating a sound that feels both nostalgic and contemporary. With an emphasis on emotional honesty and musical simplicity, Burr Island have established themselves as an intriguing presence within the modern British folk scene.
Influenced by artists such as Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles and Crosby, Stills and Nash, Burr Island explore themes of love, personal reflection and the complexities of human relationships. Their songwriting places melody and vocal interplay at the centre of each composition, allowing subtle arrangements and thoughtful lyrics to create a strong emotional connection. Through their recordings and performances, the duo have developed a distinctive identity that celebrates traditional acoustic music while introducing their own contemporary perspective.
Live, Burr Island create an intimate and engaging atmosphere where their close vocal harmonies and acoustic arrangements can be fully appreciated. Their performances emphasise the connection between musicians and audience, allowing the detail and emotion of each song to take centre stage. From delicate ballads to more uplifting folk melodies, their concerts offer an opportunity to experience the warmth and authenticity of their music in person.
