Hotei, also known as Tomoyasu Hotei, is a Japanese guitarist, composer and singer whose distinctive playing has made him one of the most internationally recognised figures in Japanese rock. He first achieved major success as a member of BOOWY before establishing an extensive solo career, developing a signature guitar sound that combines rock, electronic influences, rhythm and dramatic melodic hooks.
International audiences may recognise Hotei through "Battle Without Honor or Humanity", his instrumental composition famously featured in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill: Volume 1. Across a career spanning decades, he has collaborated with international musicians and continued to expand his catalogue through albums, soundtrack work and live performances. His instantly identifiable guitar style remains at the centre of his musical identity.
Hotei concerts place his guitar playing firmly in the spotlight, combining technical precision with the energy and spectacle of a rock performance. Powerful riffs, instrumental passages and songs drawn from his extensive career give audiences the opportunity to experience his musicianship at full volume. For guitar enthusiasts, rock fans and listeners familiar with his soundtrack work, seeing Hotei live offers the chance to witness a distinctive performer in action.
