Midwife is the project of Denver based musician Madeline Johnston, whose deeply atmospheric music occupies a compelling space between shoegaze, ambient, slowcore, and experimental rock. Johnston describes her approach as heaven metal, a fitting phrase for music that combines heavy distortion with fragile melodies and intimate vocals. Releases including Like Author, Like Daughter, Forever, Luminol, and No Depression In Heaven have helped establish Midwife as a distinctive presence in contemporary experimental music, exploring grief, memory, isolation, and connection through dense layers of sound.

Live, Midwife transforms these songs into an immersive experience built from guitar, voice, distortion, repetition, and carefully controlled dynamics. Delicate passages can gradually expand into enormous walls of sound, creating a striking contrast between vulnerability and volume. The result is a performance that rewards close attention, with the emotional weight of Johnston's songwriting amplified by the physical intensity of the music in the room.

For fans of shoegaze, ambient music, slowcore, and experimental rock, a Midwife concert offers a powerful opportunity to experience Madeline Johnston's singular sound in its most immediate form. Combining beauty and abrasion without sacrificing intimacy, Midwife delivers live music that can be meditative, overwhelming, and deeply affecting within the same performance.
