Rodrigo y Gabriela are a Mexican fast paced acoustic guitar duo from Mexico. Rodrigo Sánchez is the lead guitarist and Gabriela Quintero plays rhythm guitar. The duo gained success after playing in bars and clubs in Ireland.

The pair met in Mexico City when they were both playing in a heavy thrash metal band known as Tierra Ácida. The pair were both frustrated with the limitations of what they could achieve in Mexico with their music, so to combat this they moved to Europe. They visited Dublin in Ireland due to the Irish reputation of being an attractive location for foreign artists to travel to and perform. They achieved success while playing in bars and clubs in Dublin; while both were enjoying themselves things started getting serious as Damien Rice approached the pair asking if they would like to provide support at Oxegen (an Irish music festival). The pair then toured around the whole of the United Kingdom.

In 2001 the pair produced their album Foc while signed to the Rubyworks record label. In 2002 the pair re-produced the album calling it re-Foc; it included new songs but with re-recorded versions of some of their older songs from Foc.

In 2006 they released their self titled album Rodrigo y Gabriela, which was a great success both critically and commercially, and the album entered the Irish Album charts at number one. Their music is a mix of Latin and folk rock with influences from artists such as Led Zeppelin and Metallica.

With the release of their next album they were featured on MTV, which gave the duo a huge and new fan base in the US. In September 2009 they released a new album 11:11 and again it was successful all over the world. In May of 2010 the pair performed in front of the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama.
