The Curtom Orchestra present Curtis Mayfield celebrates the extraordinary music and enduring influence of one of the defining voices of soul. Curtis Mayfield made his mark both as a member of The Impressions and through a groundbreaking solo career, combining sophisticated songwriting with socially conscious lyrics, memorable melodies and an unmistakable falsetto voice. His work continues to influence soul, funk, R and B and popular music decades after its original release.
Mayfield created an exceptional catalogue that includes songs such as "Move On Up", "People Get Ready", "Freddie's Dead" and "Superfly". His landmark soundtrack for Super Fly demonstrated his ability to combine cinematic funk with incisive social commentary, while his wider body of work explored love, hope, inequality and resilience with remarkable musical elegance.
The Curtom Orchestra brings this celebrated catalogue into a live setting, allowing audiences to experience Mayfield's sophisticated arrangements, grooves and melodies with the impact of live musicians. For longtime soul fans and listeners discovering his work through later generations of artists, this concert offers an opportunity to celebrate a songwriter whose music remains both immediately recognisable and deeply influential.
