The Streets is the musical project of British rapper, producer, and songwriter Mike Skinner, a pioneering voice in UK garage and alternative hip hop. Emerging in the early 2000s, Skinner revolutionised British music by pairing sharp, observational storytelling with minimalist, innovative beats that captured the realities of everyday life in the UK. His conversational flow, wit, and emotional honesty helped define an entire generation’s sound, blending garage, rap, and electronic music with poetic realism.

The Streets burst onto the scene with the groundbreaking debut album Original Pirate Material (2002), a record widely hailed as one of the most influential British albums of its era. Tracks such as Has It Come to This? and Let’s Push Things Forward perfectly encapsulated the gritty pulse of urban life, establishing Skinner as both a poet and a producer ahead of his time. His follow-up, A Grand Don’t Come for Free (2004), was a concept album that told a complete story through its songs – including the hits Dry Your Eyes and Fit But You Know It – and remains a landmark in UK music history.

Subsequent albums such as The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living (2006), Everything Is Borrowed (2008), and Computers and Blues (2011) showcased Skinner’s evolution as an artist, exploring fame, loss, and maturity through his trademark honesty and humour. After a brief hiatus, The Streets returned in 2017 with new singles and live shows, proving their enduring appeal.

In 2023, Skinner released The Darker the Shadow, the Brighter the Light, a cinematic album accompanied by a self-directed feature film of the same name. The project reaffirmed his reputation as a visionary artist who continues to experiment with form and narrative while maintaining his connection to the pulse of British culture.

Known for their exhilarating live performances, The Streets bring together the energy of a rave and the intimacy of a confessional. Fans can expect a setlist that spans early classics and newer material, delivered with the raw charisma and honesty that have made Mike Skinner one of the UK’s most enduring musical voices.
