A Different Thread are a transatlantic folk duo whose music draws together British and American roots traditions through close harmonies, acoustic instrumentation and thoughtful songwriting. Formed by Robert Jackson and Alicia Best, the duo developed their musical partnership through travelling and performing, creating songs influenced by folk, blues, country and Americana. Their sound reflects both sides of the Atlantic while maintaining an intimate character of its own.
Acoustic guitar, vocals and traditional roots influences form the foundation of A Different Thread's music, with storytelling playing an important role in their songwriting. Their material draws inspiration from journeys, relationships, places and the enduring traditions of folk music. By combining American roots influences with British folk sensibilities, the duo create music that feels connected to tradition while remaining personal and contemporary.
In concert, A Different Thread place musicianship and storytelling at the centre of the experience. Close vocal harmonies and acoustic arrangements suit intimate venues particularly well, allowing audiences to hear the detail within both the lyrics and instrumentation. For fans of folk, Americana and roots music, an A Different Thread concert offers an inviting evening of songs, stories and genuine musical connection.
