Angus & Julia Stone, an Australian folk and indie pop duo formed in 2006 by siblings Angus (born 1986) and Julia (born 1984) Stone. Growing up in Newport, Sydney, their parents, Kim and John Stone, influenced their musical interests. Angus began writing pop songs in his teens, learning guitar during his recovery from a snowboarding accident, while Julia taught trumpet.
After encouraging Angus to perform upon her return from travels, the siblings started collaborating musically in 2006. They each contributed to the songwriting process, with Julia's confessional relationship songs complementing Angus's more pop-oriented and guarded lyrics. Their distinctive vocal styles and simple yet effective acoustic compositions garnered praise from critics.
Their debut extended play, "Chocolates and Cigarettes," released in 2006, led to a two-EP distribution deal with EMI Music and Independiente Records in the UK. In 2007, they released their debut studio album, "A Book Like This," which received positive reviews.
The duo continued to achieve success with subsequent albums, notably "Down the Way" (2010), which topped the ARIA Albums Chart and won several ARIA Music Awards. The single "Big Jet Plane" became a chart-topping hit and won 'Single of the Year' at the ARIA Music Awards in 2010.
Following a break, they returned with the self-produced album "Angus & Julia Stone" in 2014, co-produced by Rick Rubin. This album reached the top 10 in various countries, showcasing their blended harmonies and experimental guitar textures.
Their fourth studio album, "Snow," released in 2017, peaked at number two on the ARIA Albums Chart, featuring tracks like "Chateau" and "Snow." The album received critical acclaim and nominations at the ARIA Music Awards.
In 2021, they released "Life Is Strange," their latest album under a new recording deal with BMG. The album served as a soundtrack for the video game "Life Is Strange: True Colors."
