London folk-rock duo
Bear's Den is made up of members Kevin Jones and Andrew Davie.
Bear's Den have released three studio albums
Islands (2014),
Red Earth & Pouring Rain (2016), and
So That You Might Hear Me (2019). The band have also released three EPs,
Agape and
Without/Within in 2013, and
Only Son of the Falling Snow (2019), and a collaborative release with composer Paul Frith, titled
Fractures in 2020.
History:Formed in 2012, Bear’s Den (Andrew Davie, Kevin Jones and Joey Haynes) released their first EP that same year, followed by the singles
Agape and
Writing on the Wall in 2013.
The band's first US tour (2012) became the subject of a 2014 documentary
Austin To Boston and saw the-then-trio travel across the US in five Volkswagen Campervans with fellow musicians
Ben Howard,
Nathaniel Rateliff,
The Staves and Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons.
The same year, they released their debut album
Islands, via Communion Records, the label founded in 2006 by Bear's Den member Kevin Jones alongside Ben Lovett and producer Ian Grimble.
By 2015, the band had sold-out tours in the UK, US and across Europe, including dates at Roundhouse, London. Their global festival appearances included sets at Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Lollapalooza, Lowlands, Bonnaroo and more.
In 2016, band member Joey Haynes announced his departure from the group.
As a duo:Bear's Den's first show as a duo was a surprise set Notting Hill Arts Club as part of Communion's club night. They followed this with the release of their second – and arguably more experimental album,
Red Earth & Pouring Rain.
In early 2019, the twosome returned with two singles
Blankets Of Sorrow and
Fuel On The Fire, with a podcast carrying album's name appearing in February, hosted by LA based podcast producer Danny Carissimi. Each episode explored a different song from the album via interviews with the band, who then hit the road with a stripped-back acoustic tour, in which the band were joined on stage by Dutch musician Christof van der Ven and Marcus Hamblett in place of former member Haynes.
2020 to presentIn the summer of 2020, the band announced the release of
Fragments - a collaboration album between the duo and award-winning composer Paul Frith, which stemmed from some live shows they performed together back in 2018 and was influenced by the ideas of re-imagining and re-interpretating Bear’s Den tracks.
On 17th November 2021, Bear’s Den released the single
All That You Are. The band stated on twitter:
“It was the song that used to open our set for all our very first gigs as a band and that we last played live while travelling America in VW camper vans on the Austin To Boston tour way back in 2012! For some reason we never managed to record it but over the last year it just felt really right and important to revisit this song…”
