Beppe Grillo is an Italian comedian, actor, blogger and political activist. He has been involved in political activity since 2009 as founder of the Italian political party Five Star Movement.
He is a born comedian as well as a sharp and critical social observer. His satires main focus is the political class.
In a television appearance during the Sanremo Festival in 1987, Beppe attacked the ruling Italian Socialist Party. As a consequence, Grillo was effectively banished from publicly owned television. He was vindicated a few years later when the Italian Socialist Party had to be disbanded in a welter of corruption scandals known as Tangentopoli.
In 1992, he returned to the stage targeting the consumerism, commercial propaganda and the irresponsible behavior towards people, health and environment. Creating a new satire: economic and ecological.
In 2005 he founded the blog www.beppegrillo.it (available in Italian, English and Japanese) which ranks among the ten most popular in the world.
In 2009 the “Movimento 5 Stelle” was founded by the followers of Grillo’s blog. The movement Became, in a very short time, the most important movement on the Italian political scene and managed the incredible challenge of gaining political representation through the electoral process, first in the regional and municipal councils and then also in the Italian Parliament.
Following these eventss, Beppe Grillo gas been put under the microscope but the international media, identifying him as a political innovator for the 21st century as he uses digital technologies for a project of transition towards a direct democracy.
