The Brian Jonestown Massacre is an American rock band founded by Anton Newcombe in San Francisco in 1990. Known for their tumultuous working relationships and Newcombe’s erratic behavior, the band was prominently featured in the 2004 documentary Dig!.
To date, the band has released 20 albums, five compilation albums, five live albums, 14 EPs, 22 singles, and two various-artist compilation albums. In March 2019, they released a self-titled album. In 2022, they announced the release of two albums: Fire Doesn't Grow on Trees (released June 2022) and The Future Is Your Past (delayed to February 2023).
The band spent most of 2023 on an extensive world tour. However, their Australian tour was cut short in November 2023 following an onstage altercation between Newcombe and guitarist Ryan Van Kriedt, which led to the cancellation of the remainder of the tour and Newcombe's absence from public appearances.
In February 2024, Joel Gion published In the Jingle Jangle Jungle, a memoir covering the first decade of the band’s history, with a foreword by Anton Newcombe.
