Clarice Jensen is an acclaimed American cellist and composer recognised for her innovative approach to contemporary classical music, ambient composition and experimental sound. Based in New York, Jensen combines the expressive qualities of the cello with electronic processing, layered textures and minimalist structures to create deeply atmospheric musical works. Her compositions explore the relationship between acoustic instrumentation and electronic sound, resulting in immersive pieces that move between delicate introspection and powerful emotional intensity. Her distinctive approach has made her an important voice within contemporary experimental classical music.
Jensen has collaborated with a wide range of musicians and composers and is also known for her work as artistic director of the American Contemporary Music Ensemble, commonly known as ACME. Her solo albums, including "For This From That Will Be Filled" and "The Experience of Repetition as Death", demonstrate her ability to transform the cello into an expansive instrument capable of producing richly layered sonic environments. Through looping, electronic effects and carefully developed arrangements, Jensen creates compositions that challenge traditional expectations of classical performance while maintaining a strong emotional connection with listeners.
Live, Clarice Jensen creates an immersive atmosphere where the resonant sound of the cello unfolds through layers of electronic texture and subtle musical transformation. Her performances invite audiences to listen closely as individual notes develop into expansive soundscapes, producing moments of quiet reflection alongside dramatic crescendos. The combination of technical precision and emotional depth makes her concerts particularly appealing to listeners interested in contemporary classical music, ambient sound and experimental composition. A Clarice Jensen performance offers an opportunity to experience the cello in a distinctive and deeply expressive musical setting.
