Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), an American rock band formed in El Cerrito, California, consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist John Fogerty, his brother and rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty, bassist Stu Cook, and drummer Doug Clifford. Originally performing as the Blue Velvets and later as the Golliwogs, they became CCR in 1967. Between 1969 and 1971, CCR achieved immense success with fourteen consecutive Top 10 singles and five consecutive Top 10 albums in the U.S., including the chart-topping "Green River" (1969) and "Cosmo's Factory" (1970). They notably performed at the 1969 Woodstock Festival.
The band dissolved in late 1972 following Tom Fogerty's departure and disputes over artistic control and business matters, leading to lawsuits among members. John Fogerty's ongoing conflicts with Fantasy Records' Saul Zaentz further fueled legal battles. During their 1993 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, John refused to play with Cook and Clifford, who performed as Creedence Clearwater Revisited from 1995 to 2020. Despite their acrimonious split, CCR's music remains popular, with 45 million records sold in the U.S. and their compilation album, "Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits," achieving Diamond status.
