Courteeners are one of the defining British indie rock bands of the 21st century, known for their anthemic sound, working class storytelling, and passionate fanbase. Formed in Middleton, Greater Manchester in 2006, the band, led by frontman Liam Fray alongside Daniel Moores, Michael Campbell, and Mark Cupello, quickly became a staple of the UK indie scene, combining swagger, sharp lyricism, and sing along choruses that resonated deeply with audiences across the country.

Their debut album St. Jude (2008) introduced their raw, guitar driven energy, with tracks like Not Nineteen Forever and What Took You So Long? becoming instant indie classics. Produced by Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur), the record earned widespread acclaim and cemented Courteeners as heirs to Manchester’s rich musical legacy. They followed up with Falcon (2010), showcasing a more expansive sound with hits like You Overdid It Doll and Take Over the World, and Anna (2013), which blended synth textures with their trademark intensity, yielding fan favourites such as Are You in Love with a Notion?

Continuing to evolve, albums like Concrete Love (2014), Mapping the Rendezvous (2016), and More. Again. Forever. (2020) demonstrated a maturing songwriting style, delving into themes of identity, fame, and modern love. The band’s 2023 album Remembrance reaffirmed their position as one of Britain’s most enduring indie acts, balancing nostalgic charm with fresh musical ambition.

Courteeners are best known for their electrifying live performances, often selling out massive venues such as Manchester’s Heaton Park and Old Trafford Cricket Ground. Their shows are a celebration of northern pride and indie spirit, a communal experience of chanting, emotion, and energy.

Sound quality not brilliant, waiting in a very long line to be searched was a complete pain, those doing the searching didnt do a proper job. Smoke bomb and flare both made an appearence. On the upside James Skelly as support - what a night!

such an amaze night! as soon as liam fray (lead singer) entered on stage, the crowd went mental, best gig ive been too. the fun factor is just so different, just amazing. The countdown for the courteeners, was just immense. Mosh mixed with alcohol, proper rock n roll. The mosh was quality, lost my shoe but some bloke found it for me, much love to him.
