Diana Vickers

Diana Vickers is an English singer who shot to fame on the 2008 series of The X Factor. She made it to the semi-finals but lost out to eventual winner Alexandra Burke, finishing in fourth place. She was known throughout the show for her unique singing style and quirky stage habits (bare feet and hand movements) – which divided audiences. Simon Cowell, fortunately, ‘loved’ her unusual style.

Her debut album, Songs From the Tainted Cherry Tree, was released in May 2010 after the first single, Once, reached number one in April.

She began recording her album in January 2009 after the X Factor came to a close, insisting it would not be rushed and she would stay true to herself and her sound. Recording finished in September 2009, after which she immediately began a stint in the London West End theatre show The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, as the title character. This role earned her a Theatregoers’ Choice Award for London Newcomer of the Year in February, pipping the likes of Nicholas Hoult and Patina Miller to the post.

Her single Once was written by pop’s finest songwriter Cathy Dennis, the person behind hits such as Kylie’s Can’t Get You Out of My Head, Britney’s Toxic and Katy Perry’s I Kissed a Girl. When it was put on Radio 1’s playlist it was very well received and upon its release shot straight to the top of the charts. Vickers has appeared at Radio 1’s Big Weekend and collaborated with some of contemporary pop’s biggest names, including Ellie Goulding, Lightspeed Champion and Starsmith.
