Etta Marcus (born 26 January 2001) is an English alternative singer, songwriter, and musician hailing from Brixton, South London. Immersed in the area's rich musical culture from a young age, Marcus began playing the piano at eight and later took up her preferred instrument, the guitar, at ten.
Marcus gained prominence in October 2021 with her debut single, "Hide & Seek," which was lauded for its dreamy sound, as well as her songwriting and vocal range. Her second single, "Salt Lake City," a collaboration with English indie artist Matt Maltese, followed in November, also receiving widespread acclaim.
On 21 January 2022, Marcus released her debut EP, View from the Bridge, which featured haunting yet romantic melodies across five captivating and dark guitar ballads. She toured the EP in February 2022, supporting Matt Maltese and later alternative pop singer-songwriter Tom Odell during the UK leg of his Monsters world tour, with a notable performance at the O2 Academy in her hometown on 24 February.
Following the success of View from the Bridge, Marcus released the singles "Crown" and "Nosebleed" in August and October, respectively, through Polydor Records. Her second EP, Heart-Shaped Bruise, was released on 13 January 2023, introducing string elements into her sound.
Growing up in a town with a diverse music culture, Marcus drew inspiration from a wide array of influences, including Everything But The Girl, Alex Turner, Jeff Buckley, Mazzy Star, and Joni Mitchell, among many others.
