Export and Import are a London ensemble whose work brings together experimental music, performance and theatrical ideas. Based in Canning Town, the group use a large line-up of musicians and a collaborative approach to create contrasting sounds and live presentations. Their work moves between structured, rhythm-led music and more open-ended improvisation.
The project explores two contrasting musical identities: Export, associated with angular compositions and intense rhythms, and Import, which takes a freer and more meditative approach. Their double album EXPORT / IMPORT was released by Slow Dance Records in 2025. The release brings these different aspects of the ensemble's music together across an expansive collection of performances.
Export and Import have performed at London venues including The Windmill, Colour Factory and Corsica Studios. Their shows combine music with elements of ceremony and theatre, giving audiences an opportunity to experience the group's ideas in a live setting. For listeners interested in experimental music and performance, the ensemble offer a distinctive approach to making and presenting sound.
