Filter was formed in 1993 by Richard Patrick, a former member of the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails. After leaving Nine Inch Nails, Patrick decided to pursue his own musical vision and founded Filter in Cleveland, Ohio.
The band's early sound was heavily influenced by industrial rock, characterized by aggressive guitar riffs, electronic elements, and Patrick's distinctive, gritty vocals. Their debut album, "Short Bus," was released in 1995 and was well-received, containing hit singles such as "Hey Man, Nice Shot" and "Dose."
Filter's commercial breakthrough came with their sophomore album, "Title of Record," released in 1999. The album featured the popular singles "Take a Picture" and "Welcome to the Fold," further solidifying their place in the alternative rock scene of the late '90s and early 2000s.
Over the years, Filter underwent several lineup changes, with Richard Patrick being the constant driving force behind the band. Their music evolved to incorporate more alternative rock and post-grunge elements while still maintaining the industrial edge that characterized their early work.
Throughout their career, Filter released several albums, including "The Amalgamut" (2002), "Anthems for the Damned" (2008), and "The Trouble with Angels" (2010).
Filter's music often explores themes of introspection, personal struggles, and societal issues, with Patrick's lyrics reflecting his emotional and philosophical musings.
