Glenn Hughes started out as the bassist/lead vocalist in the band Finders Keepers in the 60s, as well as being a member of the British fun-rock band Trapeze.
In 1973 he became the bassist and vocalist for Deep Purple, and went on to play in the band until 1976. The band are considered one of the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. They have sold over 100 million albums, and even featured in the Guinness Book of World Records as the “world’s loudest band”!
In 1982, he collaborated with Pat Thrall to create the duo Hughes/Thrall – their one and only album slipped under the radar but has gained a cult status among musicians and Hughes fans, many of whom cite it as his best work.
He worked with lots of different artists throughout the 80s, such as Phenomena, Gary Moore and Black Sabbath. Sadly, he started to develop an addiction to drugs and alcohol, which negatively impacted his productivity and began to derail his career.
He recovered in 1991, however, and returned with the hit America: What Time is Love? with KLF, followed by an album with Europe guitarist, John Norum. He embarked on a solo career after this.
Glenn Hughes tickets for his Soul Mover tour were popular, helped by his collaboration with Tony Iommi on the album Fused in 2005. He worked with Red Hot Chili Peppers members Chad Smith and John Frusciante on his album Music for the Divine in 2006, which gained him new followers from the RHCP fan base. A tour followed in support of the album, and Glenn Hughes tickets sold steadily for the concerts.
An album entitled First Underground Nuclear Kitchen was released in May 2008. He started a band called Black Country Communion with Jason Bonham (drums), Joe Bonamassa (guitar) and Derek Sherinian (keyboards).
