Hinds is a Spanish indie rock band hailing from Madrid, formed in 2011. Initially known as Deers, the band, consisting of Carlotta Cosials (vocals, guitar) and Ana García Perrote (vocals, guitar), changed its name to Hinds in January 2015 due to a legal threat from another band named The Dears.
Starting as a duo, Hinds took a break in 2011 and reformed in 2013, adding Ade Martín on bass and Amber Grimbergen on drums. They gained recognition with the release of the tracks "Bamboo" and "Trippy Gum" in 2014. The positive reception led them to expand into a four-piece band.
In 2014, Hinds won the "Make Noise Malasaña" festival contest and recorded their second single "Barn" in Berlin. They toured internationally, supporting bands like The Libertines, The Vaccines, and Black Lips. The band's world tour in 2015 included performances in Thailand, Australia, the United States, and major festivals.
Hinds recorded their debut album, "Leave Me Alone," in 2015, released on 8 January 2016. The album received positive reviews and charted in the UK and Japan. They followed up with the release of "I Don't Run" in 2018, featuring singles like "New For You," "The Club," and "Finally Floating."
Their third studio album, "The Prettiest Curse," released on 5 June 2020, showcased diverse instrumentation and included singing in Spanish. Hinds faced challenges during the 2019-20 coronavirus pandemic but continued to engage with their audience through virtual performances.
In July 2023, Hinds announced the departure of members Ade Martín and Amber Grimbergen, who left the band in December 2022. Despite this setback, the remaining members, Carlotta and Ana, expressed their commitment to the band, introducing new members Paula on bass and Maria on drums.
Hinds' musical style is often characterized as garage rock, garage pop, and lo-fi, drawing influences from bands like Velvet Underground, The Pastels, and contemporary garage rock artists. Their instrument lineup includes a variety of guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards, with each member contributing to their distinctive sound.
