Howlin' Mat is a British blues performer whose music draws on the directness, storytelling and guitar traditions at the heart of the blues. With an approach centred on vocals, guitar and an appreciation for roots music, Howlin' Mat brings classic influences into intimate contemporary venues. His performances offer an accessible introduction to blues traditions while appealing to established enthusiasts of the genre.
The blues has always relied on the relationship between performer and listener, with songs communicating stories through expressive vocals, memorable guitar phrases and rhythmic momentum. Howlin' Mat works within that tradition, focusing on the essential qualities that have allowed blues music to remain influential across generations of rock, folk and roots performers.
Live, Howlin' Mat offers the opportunity to hear blues music in the intimate environment where it can have its strongest impact. The closeness between musician and audience allows subtle changes in guitar playing, vocals and dynamics to become part of the experience. For fans of acoustic blues, roots music and authentic live musicianship, a Howlin' Mat show offers an engaging celebration of the blues.
