Hugh Cornwell is a renowned English singer-songwriter and musician best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of The Stranglers from 1974 to 1990. Since parting ways with the band, he has built an impressive solo career with ten studio albums to his name, including Moments of Madness (2022), which received critical acclaim for its sharp lyrics and compelling sound.
A biochemist-turned-punk pioneer, Cornwell helped shape the New Wave era with The Stranglers’ enduring hits such as Golden Brown, Peaches, No More Heroes, and Always the Sun. His solo work continued to evolve, highlighted by albums like Wolf (1988), Monster (2018)—a concept album celebrating 20th-century icons—and the introspective Moments of Madness (2022).
In 2025, Hugh Cornwell remains a powerful live force, touring the UK with shows that span his iconic Stranglers catalog and standout solo material. Known for his engaging stage presence and storytelling, he continues to captivate old fans and new alike with performances that are as sharp as his songwriting.

It was like going back in time, Hugh was on form Hazel was excellent.
They both looked like they had fun, if Hugh ever looks like hes happy.
The range of songs was good, acknowleging the majority of the crowd were Stranglers fans so they wanted to hear the standards, Hugh didnt disapoint. This was so much better than the acustic session last year at the Arches.
Hugh keep on rocking and thanks for the autograph, have personally waited 37 years to speak to you, top man.
Brilliant
Gateshead, Sage Gateshead, 28/11/2014
Ive always been a Stranglers fan but had never heard any of Hughs solo material so when The event was announced I immediately bought tickets. I was unsure of what to expect despite the quality of his work with The Stranglers. I was not disappointed, he was truly outstanding. The mix of old and new was brilliant as were the band. Id recommend this to anyone.
Hugh Cornwell
Edinburgh, Liquid Room, 29/11/2014
Great venue accoustics and fine mixing brought out the very best of the musicianship of both Hugh Cornwells and Hazel OConnors bands, and made for a very enjoyable evening.
Good, well behaved crowd (unlike Stranglers gigs!), and the venue staff were all very friendly.
The 600 capacity quoted for the Liquid Room is just about right for this sort of gig - a good mix of ticket sales for the bands, but still keeping an intimate atmosphere.
Will look forward to seeing more performers there.
My on...
