James Andrew Walsh was born on June 9, 1980, in Wigan, England. In the late 1990s, he formed the band Starsailor with childhood friends James Stelfox (bass), Ben Byrne (drums), and Barry Westhead (keyboards). The band quickly gained attention for their melodic rock sound and heartfelt lyrics.
