Joan As Police Woman is the acclaimed project of American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Joan Wasser, an artist celebrated for her richly emotive vocals, cinematic arrangements and genre-defying approach to songwriting. Blending elements of soul, indie rock, chamber pop and jazz, she has built a reputation as one of the most distinctive and exploratory musicians of the past two decades.

Wasser began her career as a classically trained violinist before moving into indie and experimental rock, performing with acts such as The Dambuilders, Antony and the Johnsons, Rufus Wainwright, Sparklehorse and Joseph Arthur. Her wide-ranging collaborations shaped the unique emotional depth and left-field sensibility that would define her solo work.

Her debut album Real Life (2006) immediately established the Joan As Police Woman sound—a fusion of intimate songwriting, lush arrangements and subtle electronic touches. It was followed by a string of critically praised releases, including To Survive (2008), The Deep Field (2011), The Classic (2014) and Damned Devotion (2018), each one exploring new emotional and sonic territory while maintaining her trademark sense of honesty and vulnerability.

In recent years she has continued to expand her artistic universe with bold, collaborative projects such as The Solution Is Restless (2021), created with Afrobeat legend Tony Allen and composer Dave Okumu, and Cover Two (2020), a collection of reimagined songs that showcase her gift for transformation and reinterpretation. Her most recent releases highlight her ongoing evolution as a songwriter, bringing together electronic atmospheres, soulful melodies and poetic introspection.

A spellbinding live performer, Joan As Police Woman is known for concerts that feel both intimate and expansive, drawing listeners deep into her world of heartfelt storytelling and richly textured soundscapes.
